Some minerals are at risk of being deficient at certain critical times of the year, while others are generally low year round.
Summit Magnesium, Zinc and Iodine Salt Blocks offer specific mineral supplements targeted for when these minerals are most needed.

Summit Magnesium Salt Block 20kg. Provides magnesium with essential trace minerals (Co, I, Se) using salt as a carrier. The blocks can be used with all stock classes. Magnesium deficiency is most common in late winter and spring, causing grass staggers and milk fever.
Summit Zinc Salt Block 20kg. Provides additional zinc with essential trace minerals (Co, I, Se) using salt as a carrier. The block is specifically designed for use 1-2 months in advance of the typical FE spore danger period through until the danger period is over, providing additional zinc in the diet prior to zinc treatment. Summit Zinc Salt Block is not a substitute for zinc FE treatment. Additional zinc may also be beneficial for hoof health.
Summit Iodine Salt Block with Zinc 20kg. Provides iodine and zinc with trace minerals (Co, Se, Fe) as dietary supplements using salt as a carrier. Iodine is essential for development and growth. Zinc is important in hoof health and general wellbeing. The blocks are suitable for all stock classes and are best used from autumn to spring. As they don’t contain added copper, Summit Iodine Salt Block is recommended for use with Texel sheep.

Warnings:
Salt is lost in milk, urine, faeces, sweat and saliva. And it is not insignificant – a cow milking 20 litres/day can lose the equivalent of 35g of salt in the milk each day. Pasture can be low in sodium and bulk feeds are often deficient. The benefits of sodium supplementation have been demonstrated in NZ and overseas.
Animals have a strong appetite for salt but individual salt needs will vary. Factors influencing needs include:

All salt is soluble. Summit Salt Block formulations improve water shedding. Trials prove Summit Salt Blocks last nearly 4 times longer than rock salt and require twice as much rainfall before being broken down when exposed to weather elements.
